We the Media is largest and most respected journalism convention in the United States. It is specifically designed for high school students and its overall goal is to motivate young people to further their journalism education. It features over 250 workshops and seminars that utilize and help build on each student’s specific skills. It also offers media swap shops, guest speakers, media tours, exhibits and on site critiques. The accessible write off contests bring some healthy competition to the table and can help to build up a college resume. Preconvention Workshops are also available for those who need a little bit one on one instruction time. The most popular of these workshops include: Photoshop work flow, Team storytelling and a leadership seminar.
Located in Washington D.C., this esteemed program not only offers professional educators, but also gives journalism students the opportunity to meet other journalism students to share ideas, stories and techniques. Their unique Media Swap shops require participants to bring in copies of newspapers or magazines that their class has published. The students then take time to exchange documents and learn from each other.
The convention will conclude with an awards ceremony to announce the winners of several contests and to recognize talented writers.
