Mooreland Heights Elementary Add-On

Mooreland Heights Elementary School started out as Moore School 112 years ago, but the building is 85 years old and has been adding improvements to the school since. This year they are adding 7500 square feet of extra space. The construction site started back in February 2014 and they are going to add three kindergarten classrooms and three fifth grade classrooms. They will also be adding four new office spaces and new bathrooms downstairs and upstairs. Principal Doctor Roy Miller, who has been working at the school for 12 years, says that the addition should be finished by Labor Day weekend. “The county commission approved the bond through taxes to pay for it. The cost will be close to $2,000,000,” Miller said. Bookkeeper and secretary Leslie May has been working for the school for 19 years and cannot wait for the add-on because it will give students, “…more space to learn and academic gain,” considering they’ve been doubling up in class. The staff at Mooreland Heights will take advantage of this because they will have room for their 400 students, which used to be around 200, and the almost 50 adults. An adult bathroom will be included and 25 more parking spaces so cars will not have to park across the street at the church. Also there will be two new playgrounds, one for primary students and one for intermediate students. Everyone is extremely excited, according to Doctor Miller, “This is going to be great for the community and children at Mooreland for years to come.”
