The weather lately has been rather gloomy and rainy and there is not much to do on days like that. On days where it is too wet to go outside, I like to stay in and watch movies alone or with some friends. Here are some movies I enjoy on those dreary days!

  • Halloween (1978) – This film remains one of my all time favorites to watch. This movie is about deranged murderer Michael Myers, who killed his older sister on Halloween at the age of six. He is then institutionalized for 15 years, and escapes the day before Halloween to return to his hometown. On Halloween night, psychiatrist Dr. Loomis and police go on a search for Myers to prevent his rampage. Meanwhile, Myers is stalking babysitter Laurie Strode and friends on that spooky Halloween night.

  • The Breakfast Club (1985) – This film is based on five students who have nothing in common that are placed in detention on a Saturday morning and leave knowing each other better than they ever did before. They are all different stereotypes of high school students, known as the “Princess”, the “Brain”, the “Criminal”, the “Basket Case” and the “Jock”. At the end of the day, they have poured their hearts out to each other and discover how much they really have in common with each other.

  • Princess Bride (1987) - This cute film is about a book that has been passed down by generations in a family and as the story is told, it comes alive. The tale is of course about love and adventure, as Buttercup is kidnapped and her evil Prince Humperdinck is on the hunt to rescue her. Little does anyone know that her lost true love, stable boy, Westley is also on the search to find and rescue her. Along the journey, they all encounter tenderhearted giants, talented swordsmen, six fingered men with vendettas, and other wild twists. This film is a quirky little film to watch while cooped up in the house!

  • V For Vendetta (2005) – This futuristic story is based in totalitarian Britain, where masked vigilante “V” is on the loose seeking justice. One night, V rescues Evey Hammond from “fingermen”, which are essentially the police there. Slowly Evey uncovers some of V’s mysterious past, and with Evey’s understanding of this she becomes an advocate for him and his hatred towards the government. As an important date for V approaches, November 5th, he arranges to overthrow the government with the help of t

he Britain population. This film is just something full of action to watch with friends!

  • Perks of Being a Wallflower (2012) – This film based on novel by Stephen Chbosky is about 15 year old Charlie, who enters high school as a lonely introvert and meets two seniors who take him in and show him the ropes of their friend group. Throughout their time together, Charlie discovers a whole new world with this group of friends and does not want them to leave for college. Towards the end of the summer, Charlie’s mental illness is triggered by the stress of his friends leaving and he is admitted to a psychiatric hospital where his diagnosis is finally discovered. This is a great coming of age film that may draw a couple of tears from your eyes.
