School Shooting in Washington Kills 2 and Wounds 3

Friday, October 24, 2014, freshman Jaylen Fryberg opened fire at the cafeteria in Marysville-Pilchuck High School in Washington. The community, which is approximately 30 miles north of Seattle, was shocked by the event.

Jaylen was a remotely popular student, who had won homecoming prince the week before the event. Students were very surprised that it was Jaylen, killing 2 and wounding 3 students before taking his own life.

Jaylen texted his victims before the shooting and told them to meet him at a lunch table, and then walked into the cafeteria, “(He) came up from behind ... and fired about six bullets into the backs of them,” Jordan Luton told CNN.

Zoe Galasso, was killed at the scene and the other four students were shot and wounded, before first-year teacher Megan Silberberger ran from an office next to the cafeteria to control Jaylen until he took his own life and security showed up.

The other four students that were wounded at the school were Gia Soriano, Shaylee Chuckulnaskit, Andrew Fryberg and Nate Hatch. Soriano was in the hospital under critical condition and died in the hospital on Sunday night. Shaylee Chuckulnaskit and Andrew Fryberg remain in the hospital in critical condition. Nate Hatch is in satisfactory condition. Although due to the injury, he will most likely never be able to play football again.

“I love you and I forgive you Jaylen rest in peace” Hatch (@NateDeezy21) tweeted on October 26.

Hatch was very close to Jaylen, as they were childhood friends, and cousins along with Andrew Fryberg which made the event even more shocking.

Multiple statements have been made as to why he would do such a cruel thing. Some have speculated his break up with his previous girlfriend greatly affected his emotions in addition to rumored racist comments being made about him.

Most families of the event are requesting privacy during this hard time as well as teacher, Ms. Silberberger.

UPDATE NOVEMBER 12, 2014: The two students Shaylee Chuckulnaskit and Andrew Fryberg have both passed away in the hospital, leaving the Nate Hatch as the only survivor.
