Thanksgiving Decorations

When Thanksgiving is brought up the first thing that pops into everyone’s head seems to be turkey. But, there is a lot more to the holiday than that. The majority of families spend days preparing their households for when their relatives come to enjoy the large dinner. There are creative ways to furnish your dining room table with edible yet beautiful treats, and other adornments that could be created in no time at all with everyday items.

DIY Thanksgiving Centerpiece

If you’re looking for a simple and inexpensive way to decorate your table for Thanksgiving, try making this easy centerpiece. This is the perfect decoration to dress up your table, or to even put on your mantle or bookshelf.

Here’s what you will need:

  • A tall, clear vase

  • A small branch

  • Spray paint

  • Construction paper

  • Yarn

  • Shelled walnuts or small rocks

  1. This project takes some minor preparations. First, you will need to paint the branch. You can use any color, but white or gold will probably look best.

  2. While the paint is drying, you will need to cut out some leaves from construction paper. The best colors to use are the fall tones such as red, orange, yellow, and brown. To make the leaves, you can either use a stencil or you can free hand and cut them in all different shapes. Once you have them all cut, punch holes in the tops.

  3. The next step is writing on the leaves. You can choose to put family members’ names on them, what you are thankful for, or both. After you have written everything, tie small pieces of yarn on each leaf so you can hang them from the branch.

  4. Now, take the tall vase and fill it about half way with either walnuts or small rocks. Once you have done this, place the painted branch down in the middle of the vase so the rocks support it.

  5. To complete your centerpiece, take all of your leaves and hang them on your branch, making sure they are evenly spread out. Take your finished project, place it on your table and enjoy!

Not all decorations have to be the original turkey arts and crafts. Some could even be of the edible variety.
