Gurley Tears ACL during First Game Back since Suspension

The Bulldogs suffer a major loss, yet again, as junior RB Todd Gurley suffered a torn ACL in his left knee. The injury happened in the final quarter of the 34-7 win over Auburn on Saturday, November 15, 2014. The injury takes Gurley out for the rest of the season, devastating Georgia fans.

Gurley has been out with a 4-game suspension due to receiving around $3000 from autographed memorabilia, which is against NCAA rules. Gurley returned to the Bulldog’s team for the first time since the suspension this past Saturday, playing against Auburn. Up until the injury, Gurley had 138 rushing yards on 29 carries, including a touchdown.

Throughout the season, Gurley has averaged 143 rushing yards a game, which isn’t that far off from his 110 average during his career. He is currently tied for second for most rushing touchdowns in the University of Georgia history with 43, putting him behind legend, Hershel Walker.

“[Nick] Chubb can fill [Gurley’s] role just fine, but there is not another Todd Gurley. Gurley opened up the offense more because they were so focused on him that our pass game worked more effectively, but now everyone plays us straight up because Gurley is out,” says Georgia fan, Austin Arrington.

Freshman Nick Chubb is second-string RB for Georgia and has played for the team in Gurley’s 4-game suspension, and will play in the following games. Arrington states, “Chubb averages about 120 yards a game so it’s a good replacement.”

When asked how he feels about the loss of Gurley, Arrington replied with, “Devastated, because we had a really good shot at having a chance to make it to the playoffs if we win the SEC Championship but without him it makes everything that much harder.”
