2014's Top 5 Music Albums

2014 has had an amazing year in music. Artists new and old made the top 5 albums of the year. Which of these albums could you not shake off?

At #5 was the movie Guardians of the Galaxy’s soundtrack. This features various artists from the movie, such as Michael Jackson, and The Runaways. Since the movie is an action movie, most of these songs are upbeat, and exciting. But it also has its slow moments. Probably the most memorable song from the movie is, “I Want You Back,” which is performed by the Jackson 5.

Pentatonix took the #4 spot with, That’s Christmas To Me. This group consists of acapella singers, which makes it a lot more interesting. Probably the most popular song on the album is a mix between “Don’t Worry Be Happy,” and “Winter Wonderland,” which makes you want to tap your feet with its Caribbean feel. They also cover Frozen’s “Let it Go,” and “Dance of the Sugar Plum Fairy.” This album was the most popular Christmas album this year, for its obvious song choice.

#3 was Sam Smith’s, In the Lonely Hour. This has to be one of the best rising artists, due to his incredible vocals, which has been compared to Adele’s. His hit song, “Stay With Me,” has such a simple beat, but Sam Smith makes it more incredible with its perfect lyrics and emotion he puts into the song. Most songs on this album are slow, which lets Sam Smith show off his incredible talent with long high notes, and the emotion he can put in his words.

The Frozen movie soundtrack came in at #2. Basically everybody has heard of and or seen this movie, and heard its soundtrack, especially “Let It Go.” This song has been stuck in everybody’s head at least once. The song is amazing, and the artists Idina Menzel and Demi Lovato give their own interpretations of the song, which are both good. The songs are upbeat and slow at times, with it being a soundtrack to a Disney movie, there are sad and happy moments. It uses both aspects of a fast and slow tempo to its advantage.

The #1 spot could’ve been guessed by anybody by now since it hasn’t popped up yet, but in case you didn’t know, it is Taylor Swift’s 1989. This album has many hit songs including you guessed it, “Shake It Off” and “Blank Space.” This album has received a lot of praise as it can be considered to be her best album. Everyone who has the album is always complaining of why they never hear a certain song on the radio from this album that they completely love. Most people like a few songs on an album, but most people enjoy every one of these. She still has songs about her ex on here and how bad he is, but she also writes about other things, which could be part of its popularity. “Shake It Off” has a theme of telling her haters she doesn’t care. With over one million copies sold in a week, no hater can argue with that!
