On January 11th, 2015, the Facebook page for the art supply company Crayola was hacked by an unknown source.

While not as seriously damaging as the holiday hackings of Microsoft and Sony, in which a large number of confidential documents and five Sony movies (four that were unreleased) were released and online services were disabled, the hacking still caused a panic at Crayola. In their attack, the hackers posted inappropriate material and shared links to R-rated websites.

The issue was quickly recognized by the company, and they addressed the situation via Twitter, saying, “We’re aware of the situation on our official Facebook page, which was hacked today, and making every effort to stop the unauthorized posts.”

Crayola resumed control of the page not long after the attack, finding no reason for the hacking. After the issue was resolved, the company tweeted an apology, which said, “We don’t condone the inappropriate & offensive content being posted to the fraudulent Crayola FB page & sincerely apologize to our fans.”
