Restaurants on Market Square Close

Some of the restaurants on Market Square are on the verge of closing or have recently closed. These restaurants include: Shonos in City, Latitude 35, Steamboat Sandwiches and the Orange Leaf Frozen Yogurt.

Shonos in City owner, Willy Rosenberg, said in a recent interview with Knoxville News Sentinel, “We’ve been here for about ten years. We want to thank Knoxville. We couldn’t have done it without all our wonderful customers.” Various reasons are such as the owner having health issues and the UT football games which make it hard to draw a lunch or dinner crowd. However, another reason that Shonos in City and other downtown businesses are having is happening with the grease traps, which are not satisfactory and needs one three times as large for the installation and that costs $19,700.

The co-owner of Steamboat Sandwiches, Maggie Cole, said that they would be moving back to it’s original location at 2343 N. Central soon, but they have not set a date after they closed near the end of 2014. Latitude 35’s co-owner Jimmy Buckner confirmed that the restaurant would be closing but still need to work out the details for rebranding the eatery. Also, Orange Leaf Frozen Yogurt’s spokeswoman, Lisa Riley, had an interview with KNS and said, “We are sad to be leaving, but look forward to identifying another franchise to represent our brand in the market.”
