On the 2nd of this month, a man in Australia named Adam Koessler was arrested for administering cannabis oil to his 2 year old daughter with stage 4 cancer, sparking international controversy. His daughter, Rumer, suffers from a neuroblastoma, a type of malignant tumor which forms around nerve tissue. Koessler claims to have infused cannabis oil into Rumer’s food in an attempt to ease her pain and severe symptoms. According to the Koesslers, the effects have been incredible.

“What we saw when Rumer was given the medical cannabis oil was nothing short of miraculous,” said Koessler. “Her cancer-ridden little body was alive again. … She would say ‘Daddy, tummy’s not sore,’ and she would be able to eat like a champion and began to gain weight.”

Despite the remarkable results, medical marijuana is still illegal in Australia, and moreover, Koessler administered it without consent of a doctor. He has been charged with possessing dangerous drugs and supplying them to a minor under 16 years of age. Since the arrest, thousands of people have been raising money and signing petitions in support of the Koessler family, who argue that Adam Koessler should be pardoned because of the impeccable outcome and good intent.

In fact, many people use scientific studies as reason for marijuana legalization, which show that cannabis can be extremely effective for victims of certain diseases and disorders, such as cancer and epilepsy. Apparently, cannabis also contains two substances proven to shrink tumors.

Since Rumer has stopped receiving cannabis oil, her health has rapidly declined and is now being taken care of in the hospital ICU. Koessler’s only comment is, “I saw first hand that the cannabis oil was extremely beneficial and I hope I simply did what any father would do.”
