The Knox County Board of Education has approved over $1.3 million being put towards the expansion and renovation of Mooreland Heights Elementary School. For over a century Mooreland Heights has played an important role here in South Knoxville, providing a safe and nurturing learning environment for children. However in recent years some of the teachers have had to share classrooms and the school’s kitchen was too small to prepare enough food for all the students on its own. Thanks to the expansion, these problems as well as others will be corrected for the upcoming school year at Mooreland Heights.
According to Dr. Roy Miller, the principal of Mooreland Heights Elementary School, new classrooms, bathrooms, offices, a new foyer and a satellite kitchen will be added to the school. These additions will be added to the side of the school near Martin Mill road. The construction has begun and if everything goes according to plan, it will be finished by August. In the meantime, students, teachers and community members are celebrating the construction and all that it means.
