South-Doyle's Last TN Promise Meeting of the School Year

Since being established in 2014, the Tennessee Promise program has been up and running smoothly in schools all across the state of Tennessee including South-Doyle. As the school year draws to an end so does the time window for high school seniors to see if they qualify for the program and take the steps to register.

Like most state and federal programs, TN promise can be hard for a student to figure out all alone. To help students figure it all out, many schools have been holding after school meetings to give students access to teachers and administrators who can help students and parents with the process. On the evening of April 6, 2015, South-Doyle high school held its last Tennessee Promise meeting after school in the main campus cafeteria. The meeting began at 3:45pm and went on until 7:00pm. At the meeting the requirements to qualify for the program were clarified, what Tennessee Promise does for graduating high school students and, for those who were already registered, served as confirmation that they’re serious about being a part of the program. Mrs. Sonya Wood, South-Doyle’s college access coach, was at the meeting to answer any additional questions students had about the program and the dynamics of choosing a college.

The program has given many students who never thought they would ever qualify for a scholarship or go to college at all hope for a brighter future. In the November of 2014 when registration for the program was first opened, over 50,000 students took the initiative and enrolled in the program. Many Students at South-Doyle were among those who enrolled in the November of 2014 and now the majority of South-Doyle’s senior students have enrolled or earned preexisting scholarships.
